FILTERING PROTOCOLS
** NOTE: Be sure to label all samples with sample # and type of sample.**
Filling Sample Bottles
- Rinse the sample bottle 3 times with sample water from the niskin bottle (or bucket or, in the worst case scenario – lean over the edge and do a surface grab doing 3 rinses and fill making sure to be clear of any boat discharge) and fill the bottle to the top with sample water (no headspace). Record the niskin bottle number each sample bottle was filled from.
Nutrients
Triple rinse small vial. Fill ¾ full and place in freezer
Chlorophyl
- Use 25mm GF/F filter. Filter 200mL seawater. 2 replicates. Place in foil wrap. Fold in ½. Place in liquid nitrogen dewar.
Particulate Silicate
- Use 0.6um membrane filter. Forceps do not touch GF/F filter. Filter 630mL. Place in small plastic petri-dish. Fold in ¼. Be sure to crease folds.
HPLC
- HPLC(1) & HPLC(2): Use 25mm GF/F filter. Filter 1250mL seawater. Filter additional 630mL of HPLC(2). Place in foil wrap. Fold in ½. Place in liquid nitrogen dewar.
Ap
- Use 25mm GF/F filter. Filter 630mL. If no color on filter filter an additional 630mL. Place in foil wrap. Gently fold in ½. Place in liquid nitrogen dewar.
Acdom
- Triple rinse amber Qpak bottle. Fill to top. Refrigerate in the dark.
CHN
Use precombusted 25mm GF/F filters. Filter 630mL. Place in foil wrap. Fold in ½. Place in liquid nitrogen dewar.
