Toolik Lake, Alaska NSF Arctic LTER site

Simulations of Toolik Lake during the 1999 and 2004 field seasons have been conducted using a Quasi-3D layer model to compare with the field measurements and focus the efforts of further data collection.

Modeling was conducted by Francisco Rueda at the University of Granada, Spain

Modeling Animations

  • 1999
    • Animation 1* [15.5 MB] - A cross-section illustrating internal wave motions during moderate winds.
    • Animation 2* [19.5 MB] - Modeling of the 7 degree Celsius isotherm during moderate winds.
    • Animation 3* [3.7 MB] - A cross-section illustrating the pathway of an incoming stream during high discharge.
  • 2004
    • Animation 4[12.8 MB] - Simulation of a tracer input at the inlet to the lake during the first storm event of the season
    • Animation 5[14.6 MB] - Simulation of a tracer input at the inlet to the lake during the second event
    • Animation 6[14.6 MB] - Simulation of a tracer input at the inlet to the lake during the third event
