Climate Variations and Changes

(CLIVAC)

Welcome to the Climate Variations and Change research group. CLIVAC is headed by professor Leila Carvalho from the Department of Geography at UCSB. Leila got her BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Meteorology at the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The behavior of our climate is governed by complex processes and interactions within the Earth's atmosphere, oceans, land, biosphere and ice. CLIVAC is dedicated to further understand the Earth's present and future climates on different temporal and spatial scales. With this goal in mind, CLIVAC has been developing observational and modeling analyses in atmospheric sciences. Our current research projects include:

  •  Climate variability and change in the South American Monsoon System (SAMS):

  •  Climate and regional modeling in the Antarctica Peninsula

  •  Regional modeling in southern California

  •  The Madden-Julian Oscillation

  •  Predictability and impacts of extreme weather events

  •  Santa Ana winds and wildfires in southern California

Our website is currently in construction. Please email professor Leila Carvalho for questions and comments
